Ätiologie - Trauma. Viele Fälle treten als Folge eines Autotraumas auf. Aus diesem Grund und der Tatsache, dass die Vorderbeine betroffen sind, ist eine sorgfältige Beurteilung der thorakalen Strukturen wichtig, um Herzrhythmusstörungen, Pneumothorax, Lungenödeme oder Zwerchfellhernien zu erkennen.

Klinischer Befund
Hunde haben einen unterschiedlichen Grad an Lahmheit. Fälle von Skapulaluxation haben einen deutlichen knöchernen Vorsprung im dorsalen Bereich des Thorax, der den dorsalen Rand des Schulterblatts darstellt.
Diagnose
Die Diagnose ist im Allgemeinen bei der körperlichen Untersuchung offensichtlich, aber es sollten Röntgenaufnahmen angefertigt werden, um alle traumatisch bedingten Erkrankungen des Thorax und des Schulterblatts zu beurteilen.
Behandlungsmöglichkeiten
Die Therapie der Wahl ist in der Regel die Befestigung des kaudal-dorsalen Randes des Schulterblattes an einem Rippenkopf. Eine Schlinge kann postoperativ angelegt werden, um die Belastung der Reparatur zu reduzieren. In einigen Fällen kann eine Reparatur des ventralen Serratus-Muskels, der das Schulterblatt am Brustkorb hält, durchgeführt werden.

Klinischer Befund
Hunde haben einen unterschiedlichen Grad an Lahmheit. In einigen Fällen sind andere traumatische Verletzungen offensichtlicher, übersehen jedoch bei Traumata die Untersuchung des Schulterblatts nicht. Sorgfältige Palpation für Schmerz, Bewegung fra gments, insbesondere der Wirbelsäule, Akromion und glenoid oder crepitus dieser Strukturen durchgeführt werden sollte.
Diagnose
Laterale und AP-Röntgenaufnahmen müssen sorgfältig auf Frakturen untersucht werden. Frakturen des Schulterblatts können schwer zu erkennen sein, so dass mehrere Ansichten oder ein CT zusätzliche Informationen liefern können.
Behandlungsmöglichkeiten
Einige Frakturen des Schulterblatts können konservativ mit einer Velpeau-Schlinge oder einer Spica-Schiene behandelt werden. Eine Operation wird empfohlen, wenn eine starke Dislokation von Fragmenten mit starker Lahmheit oder Schmerzen vorliegt oder wenn der Schulterblatthals oder das Glenoid von der Fraktur betroffen sind.

Etiology - Trauma. Many cases occur as a result of automobile trauma. Because of this and the fact that the forelimb is affected, careful evaluation of the thoracic structures is important to detect cardiac arrhythmias, pneumothorax, pulmonary edema, or diaphragmatic hernia.
History
A history of trauma is indicated by the owner.

Clinical Findings
Dogs have a variable degree of lameness. Cases of scapular luxation have an obvious bony protrusion in the dorsal region of the thorax, which is the dorsal border of the scapula.
Diagnostics
Diagnosis is generally obvious on physical examination, but radiographs should be made to assess for any traumatically induced conditions of the thorax and scapula.
Treatment Options
The treatment of choice is generally attachment of the caudal-dorsal border of the scapula to a rib head. A sling may be placed post-operatively to reduce stress on the repair. In some cases, repair of the serratus ventral muscle, which is the muscle holding the scapula to the thorax, may be performed.

Careful palpation for pain, motion of fragments, especially the spine, acromial process, and glenoid, or crepitus of these structures should be performed.
Diagnostics
Lateral and A-P radiographs must be carefully evaluated for fractures. Fractures of the scapula may be difficult to see, so multiple views or a CT may provide additional information.
Treatment Options
Some fractures of the scapula may be managed conservatively with a Velpeau sling or Spica splint. Surgery is recommended if there is severe displacement of fragments with severe lameness or pain, or if the scapular neck or glenoid are involved in the fracture.
